In the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria, you’ll find a delightful French style café called Fontaine. The owners, sister team Kyong and Sunyi, unveils a distinctive café stemmed from the comforts of good food and European style to the savvy people of Old town. Fontaine serves a diverse selection of entrees and appetizers, but boasts of their crepes, which range from savory to sweet. They also had a good selection of cocktail starters from the traditional mimosa to the fancy Normandy Royale. Every choice on the menu was mouth-watering, but since the crepes had such a good reputation, we decided to try the “Norwegian”, which was cold smoked salmon, caramelized onion with cream fraiche for the savory and the “Marathon”, a combination of Nutella, chocolate sauce, peanut butter and bananas (apples are an alternative) for the sweet. We chose to skip on the vanilla ice cream on the latter to cut back on some calories 😉 The service was quick and minutes after placing the order, my savory crepe arrived with a side salad. Delicious! The sweet crepe didn’t disappoint either. Just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy my craving.
Absolutely the perfect meal for a beautiful Saturday brunch! If you want to check out Fontaine’s menu or their weekly events such as French movie night on Thursdays at 7pm, click here.
