Can you imagine jumping into the water at Lake Anne in Reston in this freezing cold weather? Â No, me neither! Â Well more than 250 people did just that on Saturday, February 1st.
The Toth Family of Oakton organized this year’s 7th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip at Reston’s Lake Anne Plaza.  The event benefits a charity called Camp Sunshine in Maine which is a camp for children with cancer and their families to get a chance to getaway and have an extraordinary summer camp experience.
As Reston-locals know, Lake Anne has been frozen all winter, so they had to use chainsaws to cut a “swimming hole” for the event! Â Freezin’ for a Reason raised a record $87,424 this year!
Adults, children, and teams wore fun costumes to take the plunge! Â My personal favorite is this person in a Gumby suit:
Reston is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and Robert E Simon (Reston’s founder) attended the event on Saturday!
Some plans are in the works to update and renovate Lake Anne Plaza, but I’ll keep you posted once they become a little more concrete!
