Reston’s Polar Dip at Lake Anne!

Can you imagine jumping into the water at Lake Anne in Reston in this freezing cold weather?  No, me neither!  Well more than 250 people did just that on Saturday, February 1st.

The Toth Family of Oakton organized this year’s 7th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip at Reston’s Lake Anne Plaza.  The event benefits a charity called Camp Sunshine in Maine which is a camp for children with cancer and their families to get a chance to getaway and have an extraordinary summer camp experience.

As Reston-locals know, Lake Anne has been frozen all winter, so they had to use chainsaws to cut a “swimming hole” for the event!  Freezin’ for a Reason raised a record $87,424 this year!

Adults, children, and teams wore fun costumes to take the plunge!  My personal favorite is this person in a Gumby suit:

Reston is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and Robert E Simon (Reston’s founder) attended the event on Saturday!

Some plans are in the works to update and renovate Lake Anne Plaza, but I’ll keep you posted once they become a little more concrete!
