The influx of technology companies to the area in the late 90’s and early 2000’s has helped the economy and the housing market to thrive here. One of the oldest communities in Fairfax County, Centreville has a rich Colonial and Civil War History with many historical sites to visit.
In the 1760’s, the Centreville area was referred to as “Newgate”. In 1792 the town of Centerville was established and later renamed Centreville. During the Civil War, Centreville served as a supply depot for both the Union and Confederate armies and is famous for being the site of the Centreville Military Railroad, the first railroad ever built for the exclusive use of the military. Centreville’s location at the intersection of several major roads made it a strategic location and was associated with Colonel John S. Mosby. Many of the historical sites are located in the Centreville Historical District, but there are many sites spread in and around the area as well.
