Vienna Real Estate

Vienna in Fairfax County, VA

In August 2013, Money Magazine ranked Vienna 3rd on its list of top 100 places to live in the United States. With its highly ranked public schools and the Tyson’s Corner shopping center, Vienna has everything a family could need.  There is a Washington Metro Station with large parking garages, the W & OD Trail cuts directly through the center of town and the nearby Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts offering something for everyone.

Among the first settlers to the area was Colonel Charles Broadwater who built his home in what would be the Vienna area in 1754. His son-in-law, John Hunter, built the first house of record within the town in 1767 and called it Ayr Hill. In 1849, a doctor named William Hendrick agreed to settle in the area if the town’s name was changed from Ayr Hill to Vienna in honor of his hometown in upstate New York. With the introduction of the railroad in 1858, Vienna began to grow and prosper. During the Civil War, Vienna was a camping ground for both sides which made it difficult to live there and many residents moved away until after the War was over. Vienna was officially established as a town in 1890.  The trolley line was introduced in 1903 furnishing hourly transportation to and from Washington, DC allowing city dwellers to get away and shop. After that development took off with the construction of the first of Vienna’s retail shopping areas, the establishment of Fairfax Hospital, Washington Dulles International Airport and the opening of Tyson’s Corner Center.
